We usually enjoy our stays in Taj properties... (and our all time favourite is Gateway Coonoor no matter whichever places we are yet to travel. The folks and the place always make us feel like we are home.) It makes it difficult for us to write this 'not so good' stay we had at Gateway, Chikmagalur. So I am trying to humour myself by writing this review. Good things first. The campus is peaceful and serene. Well connected to nearby town. Located just 10-15 minutes away from Chikmagalur. Situated by the highway. So many fun activities. (Some of them are chargeable.) Wonderful karaoke sessions in the evening. Oh... we had so much fun. But what this place lacks is warmth. When you are going to some new places to stay, you would expect to see some friendly smiling faces, right? Like when you cross the lobby by chance or waiting for your car in the portico, it would be nice to see if the staff looks at you and gives a courtesy smile, at least. Well, we didn't get it here. Not to our face; not over intercom calls. Actually one time, they literally cut the intercom call while I was still talking. I was about to say, "Hi, I am calling from (our room number). Can you please send someone to clean our room? And we need the dishes to be cleared out too. Those are accumulating from yesterday." But it went like this: "Hi, I am calling from (our room number)." "Yes ma'am." "Can you please send someone to clean our room? And we need the dishes to be..." "Okay. Will send." Tok. Beeeep. Beeeep. I was dumbfounded for some time before I was able to put down the receiver. I had something to say to her after that too. But she was in a little bit rush it seemed. So I am saying it here. "Well... thank you, milady, for listening!!!" I don't know if this was only our experience or if other guests feel the same way too. However, I am gonna go on some more about this one 'memorable' stay. I could literally count the number of faces I saw who could smile, within the fingers in my both hands; throughout our stay - entire three days. One Mr. Rahul, and the singers Ms Arohi and her fellow singer (sorry, dear sir! I forgot to ask your name as your voice made us forget everything.). However, some staff in restaurant were friendly and smiling and some housekeeping staff too. Wait... speaking of housekeeping again. Using the 'clean my room' switch is not automated... I don't mean literally. But it seems like they don't check it sometimes or what. So better switch it on and phone them and let them know that you have switched it on. When we went out for sightseeing in the morning around 10, we had switched it on. We returned to our room by 4.30ish in the hope to get some nice rest. We had a surprise how our room could have been cleaned and still can have the look just as we left it! It took us a few minutes to realise... 'oh no... our room is yet to be made.' At least, we were able to meet the housekeeping staff and thank him for his services. When you say fee
